A 65-strong crowd gathered early this afternoon at Glen Beg to listen to the chief planning officer brief members of Highland Council Planning Committee on the main features of the site for the proposed Ardnamurchan Distillery.
While the planning officer pointed out that this was not an opportunity for objections, Michael MacGregor (left), one of the principal opponents of the plan, brought along some twigs from the the Ben Nevis distillery to illustrate the black mould that might affect the area should the project get the go ahead.
Donald Houston, a director of Adelphi Distillery Ltd, which is proposing the distillery, kept his counsel....
...but Rosie Curtis, Chairman of West Ardnamurchan Community Council, expressed concern that, while the majority of those present strongly supported the project, as did WACC, most of the objections on site had been from opponents.The Planning Committee proceeded to Sheilbridge Hall, where a decision would be made.
Black mould from the Angel's Share is a common factor on trees and buildings really near any distillery. I am sure that appropriate siting of breathing vents etc and the planting of a few extra native deciduous trees in other areas could help counteract these rather simple problems.
