Here are some photos of this weekend's dry stane dyking course outcome. I think its a beautiful wall. There were five folk doing it, four from Kilchoan and a guy who biked down from Fort William on his Harley. Peter Holmes (aka Soily Pete) was the tutor, and all said they had enjoyed the course and learned a lot from Pete.
Apparently when you have built a wall the tradition is to kick it and stand on top to test its strength. This one at Meall mo Chridhe passed the test with flying colours. As usual, Stella and Dave provided fantastic catering throughout the two day course.
After I had arranged this course, I had quite a lot of requests from people who were offering me bits of wall for future courses. If folk would like to have their bit of wall considered for the next course, which won't be for another twelve months or so, please get in touch. It will be down to Pete to decide which wall we use, and the decision will be based on health and safety issues and whether it provides the opportunity for students to learn all the necessary skills.
Pete is a great guy. He is busy this week teaching the traditional craft of hazel weaving in the Hermitage of Braid Local Nature Reserve in Edinburgh. Everyone enjoyed learning their new craft and felt very satisfied with the beautiful hazel walls created in the Walled Garden.
